The Tengger Desert is the fourth largest desert in China. Its name comes from the Mongolian word for "sky," and suggests that the desert itself is as endless as the sky. Most of the desert lies in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, but it borders Gansu Province and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
