Mao Zedong, the late Chinese leader, also the main founder and leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), was born in Shaoshan, central China's Hunan Province on December 26, 1893.
The former residence of Mao Zedong was the birthplace and childhood home of Mao. It's now a national 5A scenic spot, a "Red tourism" site and also a popular tourist destination. Mao lived here until 1910, when he left his hometown for education.

Mao's former residence opened to the public in 1951 and has received more than 100 million visits from both home and abroad, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The scenic spot was reopened on April 25 this year, after a closure of over 50 days for renovation.

The room's furnishings have been kept roughly as what they were when Mao lived, and most of the utensils are original. Mao's family shared the middle hall with their neighbors, the whole complex forms a concave shape, which was a typical style of houses in Hunan Province at that time.
