The Himalayan swiftlet got its Chinese name from its short, golden beak and golden strings in its wings. Boasting its special acoustic positioning system, the bird knows exactly where it is going in the pitch-dark cave.

About 'Journeys in Nature': Shennongjia series

In the Shennongjia Series, we present the special climate and stunning views of this region, as well as the inhabiting precious flora and fauna unique to China. The Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys, the sika deer, the Chinese giant salamander and the dove tree, thousands of representative species gather here in an area of only 3,252 square kilometers. Global biodiversity comes into full play in the mountains and valleys of this wildlife paradise.
