Ma Weitao, a bee breeder in Qiaojia County in southwest China's Yunnan Province, is troubled by blue-tailed bee-eaters. The second-class state protected green birds consume a great amount of bees every day. Ma's family isn't well-off. The bees bring more than honey, but also his wife's medicine and his son's tuition fees. What is he going to do?

The blue-tailed bee-eater is a colorful and slender bird. The predominantly green bird is usually found near water. China is home to seven bee-eater species. The blue-tailed bee-eater got its Chinese name "li hou feng hu" for its maroon throat feathers. Its iridescent plumage means it's often dubbed the "most beautiful bird."
