The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired three ballistic missiles toward the East Sea on Wednesday, the Republic of Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected the launches from the Sunan area in Pyongyang at around 6 a.m., 6:37 a.m. and 6:42 a.m., respectively.

"While reinforcing monitoring and vigilance activities, our military, in close cooperation with the United States, is maintaining a full readiness posture," the JCS said in a text message sent to reporters.

Previously, the DPRK fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea on May 7, according to the JCS.

Last month, the DPRK held a military parade to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People's Army in Pyongyang, which featured its largest ICBM, the Hwasongpho-17.

DPRK leader Kim Jong Un said the country will take further steps to strengthen and develop its nuclear capabilities to the "fastest possible speed," according to the official Korean Central News Agency.

Amid stalled denuclearization talks and escalated tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the DPRK conducted over a dozen weapons tests this year, including its first ICBM test since 2017
