Arxan City is located in the Hinggan League in the northeastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This transliterated name means "hot spring bestowed by deities." Half of the city is made up of dormant volcanoes. The rivers and lakes merge with volcanic remains. The volcanogenic lakes are demonstrative of this unique topography.
About 'Journeys in Nature': Eastern Inner Mongolia Series
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located in the north of China, with a total area of 664,900 square kilometers, adjacent to three northeastern provinces – Heilongjiang, Liaoning and Jilin, and bordering Russia and Mongolia in the north. In this series, we embark on a journey through the Hulunbuir Grassland, Xilingol Grassland, primeval forests and wetlands to see the creatures living there.
