China's Flora Tour: The tree that represents longevity

Pine trees are commonly used in Chinese art and literature to symbolize longevity, tenacity and nobleness because they are evergreen.

One of the most well-known pine species is Huashan pine (Pinus armandii Franch.) It shares its name with the famous Mount Hua in Shaanxi Province, a place of timber production back in the old days. But its distribution covers a wide area across the provinces of Shanxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan. where altitude ranges from 1,100 to 3,300 meters.

From the wetlands along the coast to the dense rain forests hidden in the southwest of China, all boast an array of plant species. In this series, we will go on a tour to learn about some of the most iconic flora in different provinces and see how they live in harmony with the local climate and topography.
