The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) celebrates the 22nd return anniversary , Summer Davos kicks off in Dalian, the Communist Party of China (CPC) embraces its 98th birthday, and escalating tensions between Iran and the U.S. are getting closely watched.

Globalization in the spotlight at Summer Davos

The 2019 Summer Davos meeting will be held from July 1-3 in northeast China's coastal city of Dalian, with globalization in the spotlight.

With the theme of "Leadership 4.0: Succeeding in a New Era of Globalization," the forum will gather more than 1,900 politicians, business people, scholars and media representatives from over 100 countries.

Currently, as unstable and uncertain factors are increasing globally, the international community looks forward to hearing China's voices and having in-depth conversations with the country, said David Aikman, the chief representative officer of the WEF China Office.

Hong Kong's 22nd return anniversary

July 1 marks the 22nd anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.

Over 400 activities will be organized and scattered throughout the month across the region, including the flag-raising ceremony, carnivals, cultural performances, exhibitions, as well as a gala.

Under the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, Hong Kong has integrated itself into the country's overall development by actively participating in the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area project during the past two decades.

The CPC's 98th birthday

The CPC, the largest political party in the world, will celebrate its 98th founding anniversary on July 1.

The CPC was founded in July 1921. A total of 12 delegates representing about 50 CPC members nationwide secretly convened at the first CPC national congress in late July in Shanghai. July 1 was later designated as anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

Under the leadership of the Party, China has grown into the second biggest economy in the world and lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty.

Iran nuclear deal in danger

Iran has threatened to suspend more of its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal from July 7, which is also the deadline Tehran gave the signatories of the nuclear deal to protect its economy from U.S. sanctions.

Fears of war between the U.S. and Iran have intensified after a U.S. drone was shot down by Iranian forces, and the danger is likely to escalate if Iran begins enriching uranium to higher levels on July 7.

World powers have been trying to save the agreement which is now in critical condition. Chinese Foreign Ministry has called on related parties to remain rational, exercise restraint and not take any action that escalates the situation.
